FAQs on Personal Training

What exactly does a personal trainer do?
Sounds great if you're a celebrity but I'm a normal person with a job, kids, work travel, etc. How do I fit in personal training, too?
Tell me more about the personal assessment?
Isn't it expensive? Can't I get fit on my own?

These are typical questions we receive on a daily basis and trust me, they are all valid concerns. Personal training sounds indulgent and posh but really, it is a means to total body health and conditioning with build-in accountability. Personal trainers are commonly understood as part of a celebrity entourage but we aren't those kind of personal trainers.  We are here to help you reach personal health and fitness goals. We WANT you to succeed. It is a bittersweet day when our clients no longer "need"to see us as often as their knowlege of health and fitness, combined with their personal commitment, renders us a bit less necessary than before.  That's OK. We are happy to see our clients set out on their own path and no matter what type of schedule you require (thrice-weekly sessions/bi-weekly/monthly/seasonl check-ups) we are here to help YOU!

Of COURSE people can get fit on their own and many do all the time. However, if you're like a lot of other people, you find the process overwhelming and can't remember what the latest Do's and Don'ts are.  Are sit-ups better than crunches? What is a Plank? There are endless questions to be answered and we are here to make the process easier and remove any confusion.  Of course you can go off on your own but we would like to propose one question: Do you service/repair your own car or do you see a professional first? You body is your number one machine...who do you want treating it?

Personal training is perhaps more expensive initially than joining a class or a gym but what you get in return is a program designed specifically for you, your body, your needs, your previous injuries, your likes, your dislikes...we could go on and on, but you get the picture.  However many times you see us afterward is up to you.

The largest time commitment is the personal assessment. This does require 1.5-2 hours of your time, but we work with you and your schedule to do so. We can bounce a baby on our laps while you do 50 jumping-jacks or meet up at 5:30am for a jog. The personal part of personal training means it is customized to fit YOUR life, not ours.

So, it works like this. You call or email us and we'll go from there. There is no fee until we begin the assessment process so ask any and all questions.

Tell me about the Personal Assessment!

Are you new to fitness? Have you been running marathons for years and think you could improve your technique? Are you an aerobics buff but fear the free weights section of your gym?  Did you recently have a baby and feel overwhelmed with the process of getting back in shape?

No matter where you are in life and what fitness level you consider yourself to be, we can help design an easy plan to improve your overall health.  Fitness is a total body experience and we believe everyone could use a tweak in their daily routine.

We offer a comprehensive test for appraising your level of fitness, nutrition, health and general well-being. We have designed our appraisal to incorporate your current lifestyle, responsibilities and fitness level. We can accompany you to your gym, take a run with you, come to your home or meet at a mutually agreed upon place. Assessments take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours to complete*. Yes, we will measure you, weigh you, take your heart rate, measure your body fat, make you move, shake and groove but it is ALL for your benefit.  A few days post assessment, we will regroup for approximately 30 minutes and you will be presented with a kit detailing your current health, nutrition, Body Mass Index (BMI), Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) and more. You will also receive a proposed nutrition and fitness guide that we will custom-design based on your fitness needs, limitations, schedule, etc.

Assessments start at €250 and include 4 meet-ups and all materials.  (4 sessions include the 1.5-2 hour assessment and 3 post-assessment training days. The 30 min post-assessment conversation is a freebie to explain how everything will proceed from here on out.)

WAIT!!! Why do I have to pay when others offer free consoltations?

What a GREAT question and we are extremely happy to explain to you the difference between a consoltation and an overall health and fitness appraisal.  We've had consoltations ourselves and they normally involve a quick chat with a qualified trainer about what you like, what you don't like and what your goals are. That's fantastic if that works for you and you are well-versed in fitness lingo and have access to equipment, but let's face it, that isn't enough for some people. Our appraisals are a complete package that can set you off from day one towards a new, healthier lifestyle. You can take your appraisal and run (literally) never needing to see us again as we will have laid out your health and future fitness in a plan designed for YOU and provide you with a copy to follow.

*We respect that many people have busy lives which often include dependents. We want to help you and are more than willing to complete our assessments with children/infants involved.
